American Electric Power
Headquarters:  Columbus, Ohio
Founded:  1904

American Electric Power ranks among the nation's largest generators of electricity, owning nearly 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the U.S. AEP is working to bring advanced coal generation technologies, including carbon capture and storage, ultra-supercritical pulverized coal and Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC), to commercial operation.

Carbon capture efforts include a chilled ammonia process validation project at an AEP plant in West Virginia in 2009, to be followed by a larger deployment at a company plant in Oklahoma in 2012. AEP also is collaborating on a verification project for an oxy-coal combustion process for CO2 capture with potential retrofit on an existing AEP plant by 2020.

Tenaska
Headquarters: Omaha, Nebraska
Founded: 1987

Tenaska is one of the largest independent power producers in the United States. Tenaska has developed approximately 9,000 MW of electric generating capacity across the United States. Its affiliates currently operate and manage eight power plants owned in partnership with other companies. Tenaska affiliates also market natural gas, electric power and biofuels.

Tenaska is currently developing two environmentally advanced coal-fueled power projects. The Trailblazer Energy Center near Sweetwater, Texas would be the first commercial plant in the nation to capture up to 90 percent of carbon dioxide it produces and provide for its use in enhanced oil recovery.
